The Lake Road
Jan. 27, 2013 at 12:28am
So lets just say i've been working on this piece along time. It's one of those ones I just kept working on for awhile and then put away and then pulled it out, worked on it a little more, then put it away and on and on and on for three years. It's of a familiar road I would pass by all the time when painting up north. It's spring and there's no leaves. I just wanted to get that road winding back and then disappearing into nothing. It's almost nostalgic I suppose.
Up at Cottage Country(part2)

Well...I love it when sunlight splashes over repetative forms like this. This painting is more about rythym and patterns in nature than the subject matter itself.
Up at Cottage Country

Well...just got back from being up north at a cottage. A favorite one of ours. We have been going there for about three years now and I wanted to do a painting of the dock. It was done very loose and rather quickly but I wanted to get the feeling of being there, in the sun, at the lake, the gold green water in front of you. A slight breeze to cool you down. Ahhh!... cottage life.
A New Painting

Well...just finished this one. Its of a Meadow up North that I paint regularly. There is so much diversity and variation going on in this painting and thats what i wanted to show. Every leaf is different, every flower shape is individual, and although green is the common color... the hundreds of different subtle tones of green are what make this so interesting to me. (now on display at Mcnaught Gallery)
A good fall start

Well... just got back from up north and the painting was great. Lots of sketches, contrast and colors and more importantly lots of atmosphere. One of the pieces I did I liked in particular. Its the one shown here. I called it "Autumn Road" and I think it sums up my emotions towards this time of year. Long shadows, and a stunning variety of colors. I really loved painting this scene, especially standing in the wind and partial sun. Listening to the leaves rustle in the trees. I hope you get the same feeling from it. Its a smaller piece around 12 X 15.
